When a Mexican mayoral candidate was found dead, foul play was immediately at the forefront of some people’s minds. Now, their fears have been justified.
Jose Manuel Del Rio Virgen, a top Mexican political operator who worked as a technical advisor at Mexico’s Senate, is accused of being one of the masterminds behind what’s now being confirmed as a murder.
Rene Tovar, a Mexican mayoral candidate for the Movimiento Ciudando (Citizen’s Movement) Party was killed on July 4, 2021.
Tovar was killed two days before the election he was taking place in was due to commence. A group of gunman murdered Tovar, prompting officials to award the election to his campaign chief Omar Ramirez.
Ramirez was arrested soon after, with authorities claiming he was one half of the team that planned the vicious killing. Now, they’ve got the other half.
Jose Manuel Del Rio Virgen is currently being held without bail.
