President Donald Trump called impeachment a “con job” in a Monday morning tweet as the House prepared to vote on two articles of impeachment later in the week.
“The impeachment hoax is the greatest con job in the history of American politics!” Trump tweeted.
It appears that the articles will pass the House with only Democrat votes, with a few Democrats voting against impeachment and one Democrat considering switching parties and becoming a Republican.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has requested to call witnesses in the Senate trial that refused to appear or were not called in the House, including former Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he may not call any witnesses and that he thinks a speedy trial based on the House record already reported will be best.
