86-year-old country singer Willie Nelson has reversed himself on the benefits of smoking marijuana and says he will stop the practice 65 years after starting it.
“I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful,” the singer said.
He sees the decision as a way to be healthier and make better choices that will benefit his health, rather than a repudiation of his support for using marijuana.
Nelson has previously advocated legalizing marijuana and credits his smoking of the drug to have kept him alive so long by keeping him away from alcohol and tobacco smoking.
The legendary figure has not stopped using marijuana even though he is no longer smoking it. Nelson said he now uses edibles and vaping to replace smoking.
