The Venezuelan military is holding military exercises to prepare to defend Iranian oil tankers from U.S. military action.
While the U.S. had no plans of intercepting the Iranian vessels, the oil shipment is in violation of U.S. sanctions. President Trump may be forced to take some kind of action to enforce sanctions.
The oil shipment was purchased by Venezuela, which has the world’s second-largest oil reserves, because the socialist country has managed to run out of oil.
Venezuela’s state oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela, hasn’t seen production levels this low since 1945. The country has chosen to run its oil industry with political cronies not experts.
Venezuela and Iran have been growing closer together and this oil shipment may be the first move in a series of moves to boost cooperation between the two rogue states.
This shipment will be worth keeping an eye on as the political implications are tremendous. It may be a good opportunity for President Trump to show his resolve to voters before November.
