The Vatican released a statement on Monday stating that the Church cannot bless same-sex unions because God Himself “does not and cannot bless sin.”
According to church doctrine, blessings require both “the right intention of those who participate” and “that what is blessed be objectively and positively ordered to receive and express grace, according to the designs of God inscribed in creation, and fully revealed by Christ the Lord,” the explanation of the statement said.
Pope Francis approved the statement given, which also said that “not ordered to the Creator’s plan.”
It was not a judgment on persons, the Vatican said, but on actions.
Blessing any sexual relationship outside marriage between one man and one woman would be “to approve and encourage a choice and a way of life that cannot be recognized as objectively ordered to the revealed plans of God,” the Vatican said.
