On the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. shot down two Iranian drones that were attacking the Erbil airport in Kurdish-held Iraq.
There were no injuries or deaths in the attack or the U.S. defensive action, defense officials said.

U.S. troops are stationed at Erbil. The site has been hit before, most previously in July when two soldiers were injured.
