Fox News host Tucker Carlson said on his show Tuesday that tech companies have now surpassed the government as the biggest threat to Americans’ liberty.
Google and other large platforms now have the power to censor people’s speech if it doesn’t agree with certain viewpoints, which happen to be on the left, Carlson said.
“Dare to say what you think at work, and you will be fired in the middle of a recession,” he continued, adding that many people just keep quiet and feel alone and isolated.
“If you’re forced to shut up, they can do what they want to you and your country,” he said, but also pointed out that independent companies like Fox News can be an alternative to big tech censorship.
“In all of human history, no single entity has ever had more control over information than Google does right now,” Carlson concluded. “So if you are worried about the concentration of power in the hands of a few unaccountable actors and you very much should be, nobody has more unchecked power than Google does.”
