Monday on “America’s Newsroom” on the Fox News Channel, House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX) said that EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak should testify before Congress on the research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and his part in funding it.
“I believe that Peter Daszak needs to testify before Congress about what was going on, and I also think we need to sanction these top researchers that are responsible for this great pandemic that’s killed over four million people and caused 10 trillion in economic devastation,” McCaul said.
While a recent GOP report does say that it’s likely the virus was a research experiment from the Wuhan Institute of Virology that escaped somehow, there is no evidence that the research in question was funded by Daszak or EcoHealth Alliance.
Gain of function research was performed there in 2017 and funded by Daszak and EcoHealth, but it was likely not the same research that caused the pandemic, if it was caused by research at the Wuhan lab, according to testimony by Anthony Fauci.
Still, China’s behavior in trying to cover up a lab leak as the possible source of the virus has been despicable, and if Daszak had any part in that, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
