Among 15 people President Donald Trump pardoned on Tuesday was his former campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos.
Papadopoulos was charged with making a false statement to Russia collusion investigators, even though the investigation itself found no evidence of the collusion with Russia it was seeking.
Alex van der Zwaan was also pardoned for a similar process crime related to the Russia collusion investigation.
Other pardons granted by Trump included former congressman Duncan Hunter, military contractors who were convicted of killing Iraqi civilians while helping fight the war in Iraq, and Border Patrol agents who killed an illegal immigrant who they said resisted arrest.
It is a common practice to grant a number of pardons when a president’s time in office is nearly up, and as expected, Democrats criticized Trump’s pardons for a number of political reasons.
