President Donald Trump said it would be a “tragic mistake” to cancel the college football season, just days before the Big Ten voted to do just that–or at least postpone it until spring.
Trump told “Outkick” radio host Clay Travis that his understanding from doctors is that top athletes are less likely to contract the virus or have complications from it if they did.
“People don’t realize this but a tiny percentage of people that get sick … they’re old. It just attacks old people, especially old people with bad hearts, diabetes or some kind of a physical problem,” he said.
The Mid-American and Mountain West Conferences had already canceled their conferences when Trump make his comments to Travis.
History will prove Trump right about how schools, sports and other aspects of society should have reacted to the coronavirus outbreak, but right now people are too stuck in over-cautiousness to see it.
