President Donald Trump said on Monday that he did not threaten Ukraine to withhold aid from the nation if they didn’t investigate Joe and Hunter Biden over Hunter’s business dealings while Joe Biden was Vice President.
“I did not make a statement that you have to do this or I’m not going to give you aid,” Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Trump said it “probably” would have been appropriate to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, but that he didn’t do so. He has also called the phone call that was the subject of a whistleblower complaint “perfect.”
He did acknowledge that he talked about Joe Biden on the phone call but said there was no quid pro quo or pressure.
Trump has continued to press for an investigation into the Bidens. “If a Republican ever did what Joe Biden did, if a Republican ever said what Joe Biden said, they’d be getting the electric chair by right now,” Trump said.
