President Donald Trump blasted New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) and the mayor of Rochester from his Twitter page on Tuesday after the Rochester police chief and other top police officials resigned abruptly over the death of Daniel Prude by police.
“Police Chief, and most of the police in Rochester, N.Y., have resigned,” Trump tweeted. “The Democrat Mayor and, of courses, Governor Cuomo, have no idea what to do. New York State is a mess – No Money, High Taxes & Crime, Everyone Fleeing. November 3rd. We can fix it!”
Rochester police put a “spit hood” on Prude after finding him naked on the street on March 23 because Prude told them he had COVID-19. He died a week later after being taken off life support, and his cause of death was ruled to be from complications of asphyxia due to physical restraint.
The release of Prude’s arrest video after an open records request by his family led to riots in Rochester in recent days.
Police arrested 11 people involved in the riots, and three police officers were injured.
