President Donald Trump just pulled the trigger and Chinese company TikTok is furious. They never expected Trump to play follow through, but he is not backing down. This is incredible.
“I said a very substantial portion of that price is going to have to come into the treasury of the United States because we’re making it possible for this to happen,” said Trump about the sale of TikTok.
Should the popular social media platform be sold to an American company — such as tech giant Microsoft — Trump is pushing for some of that profit to go to the U.S. Treasury.
He said it would be “a lot of money,” but he wasn’t yet prepared to discuss a specific dollar amount. Microsoft reportedly has until September 15 to decide on purchasing the platform as well.
In fact, Trump spoke to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about this very thing recently and there is now optimism that the company will pick up the wildly popular video app. This would be a good move.
Ultimately, TikTok would no longer be owned by a Chinese company and therefore could not be potentially forced to overturn data on U.S. citizens to the Chinese government. It is a big win.
