A number of Republicans in Congress have written to President-elect Joe Biden, asking him to request that Democrats stop their plans to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time, just days before he will leave office.
Led by Ed Buck (R-CO), the group also included Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Chip Roy (R-TX), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), and Mike Gallagher (R-WI).
“We appreciate the occasions when you have called for healing our divisions. We write to suggest an important step you could take now to hasten this process,” the letter read.
“A presidential impeachment should not occur in the heat of the moment, but rather after great deliberation,” they added.
Biden has thus far declined to intervene in Pelosi’s swift impeachment, which seems to be aimed at preventing Trump from running for office again in 2024.
