President Donald Trump just received some fantastic news — even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) supports it. This is a stunning development.
The Trump administration, by way of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and 48 states have brought a lawsuit against Facebook for “alleged anticompetitive behavior,” reported Fox News. And Ocasio-Cortez is on board.
“Facebook is absolutely an out-of-control monopoly – one that has abused its market power to squash competition, manipulate democracies, and crush journalism,” she tweeted. “Thank you @TishJames for leading the way.”
It is interesting how she thanked Leticia James, the attorney general of New York who brought the state coalition together, but failed to mention the Trump administration’s involvement; the omission is likely intentional.
With the FTC bringing a lawsuit, the 48 attorneys general can coordinate with the current and upcoming administration; it is a big deal. But Ocasio-Cortez at least gave implicit approval of Trump’s actions, something that is likely driving her crazy.
All that being said, however, this bipartisan push to investigate Facebook and hold the social media platform accountable is an unprecedented move — and Mark Zuckerberg will be on defense for one of the first times ever.
