President Trump has removed the top federal prosecutor in Manhatten, Geoffrey Berman, from his position.
Berman has resisted calls for him to step down from his position, and because of that U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr personally asked President Trump to step in and remove Berman.
Berman has been acting as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, one of the most powerful positions in law enforcement.
The Southern District of New York attorney’s office has been responsible for numerous investigations into President Trump’s associated including Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani previously served in the same position that Berman was removed from.
The situation surrounding Berman and the plan to replace him has been dramatic. Barr condemned Berman for choosing “public spectacle over public service.” It is likely this isn’t the end of this story.
