A sworn enemy of President Trump’s was locked up. He was just tossed into jail a week ago and reports of his imprisonment have surfaced. This is quite the story.
Disgraced anti-Trump attorney, Michael Avenatti, could be using the same jail cell that held notorious drug kingpin El Chapo — or so claims Avenatti’s legal defense.
Avenatti, who is being held at Metropolitan Correction Center, is in a cell “reportedly once occupied by El Chapo, on a floor that houses individuals charged with terrorism offenses,” said his attorney, Scott Srebnick.
Due to Avenatti being “locked down” and “in solitary confinement,” Srebnick claims that “we cannot effectively prepare for the trial and Mr. Avenatti cannot meaningfully assist in his defense.”
Additionally, according to Srebnick, the temperature in Avenatti’s cell “feels like it is in the mid-40s” and he “is forced to sleep with three blankets.” These grievances are detailed in a letter to Judge Paul Gardephe.
In the letter, Srebnick asked if Avenatti could be housed in a general population facility instead. There is no word yet on Judge Gardephe’s decision, but there’s no reason to have sympathy for Avenatti.
