A pro-Iran militia commander was just assassinated in Iraq by unknown gunmen. The U.S. is the immediate suspect in the killing.
Popular Mobilization Forces leader Taleb Abbas Ali al-Saedi was shot dead late on Saturday in Karbala, a city southwest of Baghdad.
Al-Saedi commanded brigades in an Iran-backed Shiite PMF umbrella group. Al-Saedi is the second PMF commander to be killed in the last two weeks.
Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was the PMF commander who was killed along Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike.
