President Donald Trump said once again on Friday that he is considering banning the popular music video app TikTok due to Chinese spying concerns.
“We’re looking at TikTok, we may be banning TikTok, we may be doing some other things, there are a couple of options,” Trump said. “A lot of things are happening so we’ll see what happens. We are looking at a lot of alternatives with respect to TikTok.”
The fact that TikTok is Chinese-owned leaves the U.S. open to its user data being accessed by the Chinese government.
India has already banned the app, and Japan may also be looking at doing so.
TikTok has been downloaded two billion times worldwide and 175 million times in the U.S., making it one of the world’s most popular social media apps.
