President Donald Trump just destroyed it and Barack Obama is in shock. The former president of the United States has another reason to be humiliated — because Trump is leading where he failed miserably.
Trump announced this week that he would be loosening the “Obama-era fuel efficiency standards,” and some automobile companies apparently went berserk. But Trump called them all out and destroyed the narrative.
“My proposal to the politically correct Automobile Companies would lower the average price of a car to consumers by more than $3500, while at the same time making the cars substantially safer,” tweeted Trump.
He continued: “Engines would run smoother. Positive impact on the environment! Foolish executives!” Clearly, Trump is ready to play hardball on this issue, and he just threw the opening pitch.
In practice, however, Trump’s rule isn’t even a radical shift — unless you are a climate alarmist like Obama who is fine with destroying the economy in order to make minuscule reductions in carbon emissions.
Obama’s original rule required auto companies to improve fuel efficiency by “nearly 5%” each year, while Trump’s revision lowers that threshold to 1.5%. This change will benefit everyone, but some companies are high on Green.
