President Donald Trump just demanded death and his statement is spreading nationwide. He is not backing down — he is completely serious and people are stunned.
“Rarely has anybody deserved the death penalty more than the Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev,” tweeted Trump this week. “The court agreed that this ‘was one of the worst domestic terrorist attacks since the 9/11 atrocities.'”
Trump continued: “Yet the appellate court tossed out the death sentence. So many lives lost and ruined. The Federal Government must again seek the Death Penalty in a do-over of that chapter of the original trial.”
Shockingly, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out Tsarnaev’s death sentence and “has ordered a new penalty-phase trial,” according to Fox News. It was determined that the original judge “did not adequately screen jurors for potential bias.”
Regardless of the outcome of the federal government’s appeal — which Trump is vigorously suggesting must happen — Tsarnaev is expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars. But there is reason to believe he won’t escape the death penalty.
The same mistake on jury screening won’t be made again. Furthermore, the federal death penalty is reserved for the most egregious offenders (ex. Timothy McVeigh). Tsarnaev hasn’t escaped justice for very long.
