As the Senate’s impeachment trial moves forward, the word ‘acquittal’ is on everyone’s minds — and it could happen in a bi-partisan way. This is a stunning announcement.
Appearing on Fox News, longtime Republican strategist, Karl Rove, said he expects some Democrats to vote to clear President Trump of all charges — especially the vulnerable ones.
“Looking at it, you’ve had a number of Democrats, Manchin of West Virginia, Jones of Alabama…all have sort of [made] temperate comments about this,” said Rove.
He is, of course, talking about Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) — Democrat senators from conservative states who might have trouble getting re-elected this year.
Jones, in particular, seems to be on borrowed time; he only beat Republican Roy Moore in a special election to replace then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions by less than 21,000 votes.
Jones recently said that he was “concerned” about the impeachment push, while Manchin said he was “very much torn on it.” Rove believes at least these two Democrats will vote to acquit Trump.
