Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had some words of warning for Democrats who would try to attack or take out Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
Graham thought there would be consequences if Democrats used similar tactics to those they used against Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s last Supreme Court nominee, in 2018.
Most of the attacks on Barrett so far seem to be related to her Catholic religion, which Graham said is against the constitution.
The one thing I can tell every American, we have a constitutional provision that prevents your religious choice being used against you if you’re nominated to the Supreme Court or any other position in the government,” Graham said. “And that’s a good thing. So, I don’t know where it’s going to go.”
Graham said it might not be such a good idea for Democrats to go at Barrett like they did Kavanaugh, who they accused of sexual misconduct without any evidence. “The bottom line here is, they’re under a tremendous amount of pressure. But, after Kavanaugh — let me say this. After Kavanaugh, they try to destroy Judge Barrett at their own peril,” Graham said.
