Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) went after Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and demanded that he explain allegations that he usurped former President Donald Trump.
General Milley has yet to respond to allegations laid out in Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s book “Peril.”
Senator Grassley said, “These brazen words and actions, if accurate, strike at the heart of our democracy — civilian control of the military. They turn this guiding rule upside down and show utter contempt for the commander-in-chief coming from the nation’s top general. They are dangerous and contrary to military code 10 US Code 888.”
Milley got caught usurping the chain of command and undermining then-President Donald Trump and now he is refusing to talk to Congress. With Democrats in control, Milley has little to fear for now.
The allegations against Milley are extremely serious. It turns out he secretly called his counterpart in China and promised he would warn China if an attack from the United States was imminent.
If those allegations turn out to be true, Milley both undermined his superior and committed treason against the United States. A full-blown investigation must be conducted, but that won’t happen until Republicans can take control of Congress.
