The Democrat challenger to Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R) reportedly failed to investigate sexual misconduct allegations against a fellow state House Democrat when she was House Speaker.
Sara Gideon is being endorsed by Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other abortion rights groups that formerly supported Collins until she voted to confirm Brett Kavanagh to the Supreme Court.
Gideon reportedly knew about allegations against former Democrat State Rep. Dillon Bates for several months before they came to light.
She then pressured Bates to resign, then convinced the legislature to table an ethics investigation into both Bates and Gideon’s handling of the allegations.
It’s not a good look for a Democrat who claims to be against sexual misconduct and who wants to be seen as ethical while seeking office.
