Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) is once again under fire for her methods of dealing with the coronavirus outbreak in her state by refusing to reveal how many of the state’s fatalities were from nursing homes.
When asked about the numbers during a press briefing, Whitmer handed the question off to Chief Medical Executive and Chief Deputy Director for Health for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, who then evaded the question for her.
Khaldun said the state was “aligning” with a different way of reporting and figuring out a uniform way for all facilities to report. He did not, however, give any information whatsoever about the numbers of deaths from nursing homes.
Michigan is now the only state with more than 900 coronavirus deaths not reporting nursing home deaths. What is Whitmer hiding?
Although the Michigan HHS website said that “nursing facility data will be available once the transition period has ended and data appropriately validated,” and that process was supposed to end Monday, Michiganders are still waiting for the information three days later.
