A Texas grandfather and his four grandchildren were found murdered by prison escapee Gonzalo Lopez.
The grandfather was later identified as 66-year-old Mark Collins, and his four grandchildren ranged in ages from 18 to 11.
Lopez was killed hours later in a shootout with police on Thursday. Lopez had stolen a vehicle and weapons from the Collins household, and it’s a miracle more innocent victims weren’t hurt in this terrifying event.
Lopez was serving two consecutive life sentences for capital murder, attempted capital murder, and aggravated kidnapping when he escaped on May 12th.
Lopez’s escape kicked off one of the biggest manhunts in Texas history, and there was a good reason for such a response.
Tragically, that response wasn’t enough to save the Collins family. For the state of Texas and those that knew the Collins family, this horrible story won’t soon be forgotten.
