The Ford Motor Company is reportedly planning to offshore a $900 million investment that was intended for a plant in Avon Lake, Ohio and build it in Mexico instead.
The UAW announced the change in plans and said it rejected the planned move and planned to “take action” if Ford doesn’t honor its original committment to Ohio.
Ford already has more plants abroad than in the U.S., according to Breitbart. Only eight of 38 assembly plants are in the U.S., with the rest in China, Mexico, Germany, India, Brazil, and Vietnam.
The automaker could very well lose its reputation for having cars that are made in America if it continues to offshore its operations.
Like a Ford worker said online, moves like this could “alienate even more F-150 buyers in the U.S.” You can’t really call your cars American-made if you make most of them overseas, now, can you?
