Secondary-aged students in Afghanistan returned to classes on Saturday for the first time since the Taliban took over the Middle Eastern nation.
What shocked many observers is the fact that all the women teachers and girls are missing from the classroms. Thanks to the failures of the Biden administration, the Taliban are in power and now women are being denied any chance of recieving an education.
Reports from the Hindustan Times explained that, “In a further sign that the Taliban’s approach to women and girls hasn’t softened, they appeared to have shut down the government’s ministry of women’s affairs and replaced it with a department meant for enforcing strict religious doctrine during their first rule.”
The one good sign so far is that atleast primary school aged girls are being allowed to attend segregated classes.
Obviously, that is a small victory in a sea of horrific defeats for human rights in Afghanistan. The future is bleak for the people of Afghanistan who have watched their country be abandoned by western nations.
President Joe Biden’s weakness will likely cost an entire generation of Afghani women their basic rights.
