The Washington Redskins football team has dropped its name and logo on Monday after 88 years because of pressure by investors and sponsors, who fear that the public sees the name as derogatory to Native Americans.
A review of the name began on July 3 and led to the name change. In the meanwhile, several retailers including Walmart and Amazon removed merchandise containing the team name and logo.
No new name was announced, but a tweet said that Dan Snyder and Coach Rivera were working together to come up with a new name.
The new name was expected to be announced within a week.
Cancel culture gets another win, and there’s no telling which team will be the next target.
