BREAKING: Surprise Resignation Decision ROCKS D.C.

John Durham, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, was tasked in May by Attorney General Bill Barr to lead an “investigation of the investigators” from the prior Obama administration who, in 2016, had secretly opened an FBI investigation into then-candidate Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Though Durham has remained largely silent about the status of his ongoing investigation, speculative reports based on vague comments from Barr suggest that the U.S. attorney is closing in on the alleged ringleaders of what is suspected to have been a “deep state” plot to deny, if possible, and then oust President Trump from the White House.

That news would appear to have several prominent House Democrats growing rather nervous about what Durham may find, as 10 of them just fired off a letter demanding that both Barr and Durham resign from the Justice Department immediately, according to the Hartford Courant.

Those 10 House Democrats — led by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), but notably not including any of Connecticut’s congressional delegation — accused both Barr and Durham of lacking “integrity” and of having “inappropriately interfered in independent Department of Justice investigations and intentionally used (their) positions to mislead the American public in defense of President Donald J. Trump.”

At issue were statements released by both officials in the wake of the DOJ Inspector General’s report on the FBI’s abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on Trump’s campaign. Both officials noted their disagreement with the IG’s conclusion that the FBI’s investigation had been justifiably opened.

The Democrats went on in their letter to accuse Durham of being “complicit” in Barr’s attempt to discredit the IG report and perpetuate “fringe conspiracy theories” such as the now indisputable fact that the FBI spied on the Trump campaign, as revealed by the IG.
