Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made a just made shocking announcement about Supreme Court vacancies.
In the case that a vacancy arises in 2020, the Republicans in the Senate would work to confirm a nominee. This is in stark contrast to past precedent set around Supreme Court nominees in election years.
Graham said on Sunday, “Well, Merrick Garland was a different situation. You had the president of one party nominating, and you had the Senate in the hands of the other party. A situation where you’ve got them both would be different. I don’t want to speculate, but I think appointing judges is a high priority for me in 2020.”
Graham even cited the Garland situation where Republicans rejected Obama’s Supreme Court nominee because of the election year.
Graham also addressed the Senate Judiciary Committee’s efforts in appointing federal judges.
Suffice to say, Republicans will continue to appoint federal judges at a breakneck pace.
