The U.S. Supreme Court court just said ‘no’ in what amounts to a stunning rejection. The decision is poised to have far-reaching effects on gun rights, but the Second Amendment is non-negotiable for millions of Americans. This is a shocking turn of events.
As reported by Breitbart News, via an Associated Press story, a majority of justices “passed up several challenges to federal and state gun control laws, over the dissent of two conservative justices” — and it is not good news for the Second Amendment in at least three states.
Gun rights advocates were confident that the conservative-learning court would protect them from liberal states, but “justices left in place restrictions on the right to carry weapons in public in Maryland, Massachusetts and New Jersey,” even though Justices Thomas and Kavanaugh dissented.
In response to one of the rulings, Thomas excoriated the majority for a decision that “simply looks the other way” instead of doing the Supreme Court’s job and addressing the constitutional question being brought before them. This certainly isn’t what Americans asked for.
Additionally, the court refused to take up a case against California’s handgun law or Massachusetts’ “ban on some semi-automatic firearms and large-capacity ammunition magazines.” In short, it wasn’t a good day at the Supreme Court for law-abiding citizens or constitutionalists.
Even Justice Neil Gorsuch was on the wrong side this time, along with Chief Justice John Roberts — who seems to care more about appeasing the establishment than defending the Constitution. President Donald Trump needs to replace Justice Ginsburg to further balance things out.
