The Democrats have resorted to the lowest of lows when it comes to getting their way on the Supreme Court.
Rather than have a fair discussion about the merits of whether liberal justice Stephen Breyer should retire, they are beginning to imply he is helping conservatives “steal” a seat if he does not retire on their immediate timeline.
For example, according to Breitbart News report, “Sen. Jeff Merkley stated that he doesn’t think the Senate should tell judges when they should retire.”
Then that means Merkely should keep his mouth shut. But he doesn’t. Literally within seconds, Merkley did exactly what he says he knows they shoudl not do.
Merkley’s ‘”secret heart’ is that some judges, namely Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, ‘will maybe have that thought on his own, that he should not let his seat be subject to a potential theft, that that was not the type of damage he’d like to see happen to the court,'” according to the Breitbart report.
After being asked directly by Chris Cuomo if the democrats should force the Justice’s hand, Merkley responded:
I’m not comfortable doing that. Because I don’t think the Senate should be telling the members of the Supreme Court when they retire in terms of the separation of power. I — my secret heart is that some members, [particularly] the 82-year-old Stephen Breyer, will maybe have that thought on his own, that he should not let his seat be subject to a potential theft, that that was not the type of damage he’d like to see happen to the court. But not our place, not the Senate’s place to carry that message.
