A stunning coronavirus announcement just dropped and the nation is stunned. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has confirmed it — no one expected this to happen. But she told everyone about it on MSNBC.
“In terms of my situation, I kept my distance,” said Pelosi on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. She was responding to the revelation that Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) had likely contracted COVID-19.
“We all had to be six feet apart, and I kept my distance from all of the members,” Pelosi continued, reinforcing the social distancing guidance handed down by the federal government for anyone in a public place.
In total, five members of Congress — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Reps. Joe Cunningham (D-SC), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Mike Kelly (R-PA), and Ben McAdams (D-UT) — have been officially diagnosed with COVID-19.
Pending a confirmation for Velazquez, we would obviously reach six members — and who knows how many more could be infected before the United States turns a corner and the worst is over.
The U.S. has seen a total of 213,372 confirmed cases, including 4,757 deaths and 8,474 recoveries from the virus. It is crucial that Americans continue coming together to beat COVID-19 so our nation can recover economically.
