Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found dead in his Texas hotel room Monday afternoon. Skaggs was 27. The cause of death is under investigation but police do not currently suspect foul play.
Skaggs had pitched with the Angels since 2016. He married wife Carli in December.
Monday’s game against the Texas Rangers was postponed because of Skaggs’ death. Skaggs had posted photos on Instagram just hours before his death.
Skaggs was 7-7 in the season with a 4.29 ERA in 15 starts this season. He had been injured off and on since 2016 but battled back to be a valuable part of the pitching rotation.
The Rangers were told what had happened and then dismissed. Manager Chris Woodward said, “There were a lot of pretty emotional guys in there, you could tell. Some guys knew him. (Jesse Chavez) had actually played with him in LA. Some guys that didn’t even know him were visibly shaken.”
