Tragically, another shooting has devastated a major U.S. city. Eighteen people were gunned down over the weekend and city leaders are reeling.
“At least 18 people were shot, two fatally, over the weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago,” reported Breitbart News. The two fatalities were presumably different incidents, making the situation all the more shocking.
One man, a 40-year-old, was “discovered facedown on the sidewalk Saturday morning.” Then, according to a report, “just after 5 p.m. on Sunday … a 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest.” Violence in Chicago is out of control.
All the while, Lightfoot has cut the city’s police budget. But if you hamstring your city’s police and make it difficult for citizens to defend themselves, crime will only increase — and it is the innocent people who will suffer greatly.
It is no wonder that Americans are fleeing cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Once the envy of the world, they are hotbeds for anti-business policies, high taxes and cost of living, and ever-increasing violence.
Something has to change. The residents of Chicago need to demand more from their leaders at the city and state level. If they do not, this once-thriving metropolis and business hub will continue spiraling into oblivion.
