It has become commonplace for there to be dozens of shootings every weekend in Chicago, but now the violence is spreading to weekdays as well.
On Wednesday, 29 people were shot in the city, beginning just after midnight and including several shootings that occurred during daylight hours.
Two of the shootings involved multiple victims in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, and left two people critically wounded. Five people were wounded in each of the shootings.
The high number of shootings came after 40 people were shot last weekend in the city run by Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D).
A total of 364 prople have been killed in the city so far in 2021.
