Over the last weekend in Chicago, at least 44 shootings and seven fatalities were reported. Most of the shootings happened between Friday and Saturday night.
One of the shootings occurred on the Eisenhower Expressway when a person shot into a driving car, causing it to crash and killing the driver and a passenger in the backseat.
Over the past week, 20 people have been killed by gun violence, and in the month of August so far, there have been 71 gun homicides, along with 321 non-fatal shootings.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has been in charge of the city for years as the violence has continued and gotten worse.
Although she blames lax gun laws for the problems, Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.
