Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made it clear Friday that he thought Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) looked a gift horse in the mouth by accepting his deal on the debt ceiling and then blasting Republicans anyway.
McConnell sent a letter to President Joe Biden saying that he would not be helping Biden or Democrats raise the debt ceiling again in December when the 2-month deal expires because of Schumer’s “childish behavior.”
Schumer “poisoned the well” in a Thursday rant on the Senate floor by suggesting “Republicans played a risky and partisan game,” McConnell said.
Other Republicans and Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin (WV) confronted Schumer after the rant. Manchin reported called it “f***ing stupid.”
“Last night, Republicans filled the leadership vacuum that has troubled the Senate since January. I write to inform you that I will not provide such assistance again if your all-Democrat government drifts into another avoidable crisis,” McConnell wrote to Biden. “They cannot invent another crisis and ask for my help.”
