Representative Karen Bass (D-CA) called for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to recuse himself from a Senate trial over articles of impeachment expected to be passed by House Democrats next week.
“The leader of the Senate has basically said he is in lockstep, and he is going to coordinate with the defendant,” Bass said. “And so, if you can imagine going into a courtroom in a trial and the foreman of the jury says, well, I’m working with the person that’s being accused of the crime. And so, it’s completely inappropriate.”
“McConnell should recuse himself. … How can a juror coordinate with the defendant? That is corrupt,” Bass continued.
McConnell, like all of the other Senators, has watched the impeachment proceedings and knows that no real evidence has been presented against President Donald Trump. Like many in the American public, he has made up his mind based on the evidence presented and knows that Democrats were grasping at straws to try to get Trump.
There is no reason for McConnell to recuse himself. Maybe every Democrat in the House who talked about impeaching Trump long before the Ukraine phone call should recuse themselves from the vote next week. Of course, that would include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the Squad of radicals, and enough others to make the vote fail.
