Former President Barack Obama has been notified. A high-ranking U.S. senator just appeared on national television and broke the news — he discussed charges and millions of Americans are stunned.
Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) was asked on CBS’s ‘Face the Nation’ program whether he would have supported impeaching Obama under the same circumstances President Trump now finds himself in. His answer was abundantly clear: No.
Blunt said, “The answer is ‘yes,’ I would reach the same conclusion” — meaning he would not have pushed Obama’s impeachment over a phone call similar to the one Trump had with the president of Ukraine.
CBS News tried to catch Blunt in a moment of hypocrisy, but he wasn’t having any of it. He went on to say that he was faced with the question of impeachment for eight years, but Republicans resisted out of a desire for fairness.
“One of the articles of impeachment is the president resisted giving information to the Congress, which is exactly what President Obama did,” explained Blunt. “It’s what President Clinton did. It’s what President Bush did. Every president’s done that.”
He went on to say how he “wouldn’t have been for impeaching any of them,” because the president has a right “to make you go to court to prove that you really needed the information the president had.”
