The Alabama U.S. Senate Republican primary has taken a major turn as former Business Council of Alabama CEO and president Katie Britt has taken a decisive lead in the race.
A poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates found that Britt is crushing the competition with 38.6% support. Her closest competitor, Mike Durant, came in second with 27.4% support.
Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) came in third with 22% support which is miles behind Britt.
Brooks has had a particularly bad fall in support, especially after losing the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
The findings of the McLaughlin poll were corroborated by a survey done by Moore Information Group showed Britt with a 7% lead over both Brooks and Durant, who were tied at 20%.
The primary is set for May 24th, leaving Brooks and Durant with just two weeks to reverse their fortunes. Otherwise, it looks like Britt will win the opportunity to fill retiring Senator Richard Shelby’s (R-AL) seat.
