A major Senate win was just announced and Democrats are furious, but President Trump is smiling. It was just a matter of time before he scored another victory against their plan.
“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is ready to begin the Senate’s impeachment trial without an agreement with Democrats on witnesses,” reported Breitbart this week.
For days now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have demanded that McConnell present a plan to them on witnesses; he has refused.
But he doesn’t need their support anymore now that Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) have agreed to McConnell’s strategy. He has the votes and Democrats are powerless.
In short, McConnell intends to run the Senate trial for President Trump like it was handled for President Clinton — which “was to go through a first phase and then they reassessed after that,” said Murkowski.
Collins also expressed her support for this idea, saying, “I believe this approach — the Clinton approach — worked well.” Now we will see how Pelosi and Schumer respond.
