The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, Doug Collins (GA) said on Fox News Sunday that his most important witness in impeachment is none other than House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA).
“My first and foremost witness is Adam Schiff,” Collins said, noting that Schiff had compared himself to a special counsel for running the impeachment hearings in the Intelligence Committee and noting that Special Counsel Ken Starr testified in Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
“[Schiff] has put himself into that position,” Collins added. “If he chooses not to [testify], then I really have to question his veracity in what he’s putting in his report.”
“It’s easy to hide behind a report,” Collins continued. “But it’s going to be another thing to actually get up and have to answer questions.”
Schiff initially denied having contact with a whistleblower that brought a complaint against President Donald Trump, but later admitted that his office spoke to the whistleblower before the complaint was made.
