Recent video footage and photos released show Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom of California with his mask off for more than a “quick second.”
“Newsom explained away the viral photo of him posing maskless alongside basketball star Magic Johnson, saying that he was just ‘trying to be gracious,'” reports Breitbart News.
“Newsom said that he kept his mask on throughout his time at the NFC Championship game on Sunday and that he only removed his mask for a photo with Laker legend Magic Johnson when he asked for one,” reported Breitbart News.
“I was very judicious yesterday, very judicious,” Newsom insisted. “And you’ll see the photo that I did take where Magic was kind enough, generous enough to ask me for a photograph, and in my left hand is a mask, and I took a photo. The rest of the time, I wore it as we all should. Not when I had a glass of water. I encourage everyone else to do so. And that’s it.”
Newsom was then asked if he should have considered how the photo would look to others, but he doubled down that he was “trying to be gracious.”
“I was trying to be gracious, and I made a mist—you know, I mean I was trying to be gracious and took the mask off for a brief second. But no, I encourage people to continue to wear them,” he said.

This FanCam still of @GavinNewsom is now making rounds on the Twittersphere — earlier today the governor said he only took his mask off at the #NFCChampionship for a "brief second" to take a picture with Magic Johnson, and then later while drinking water. https://t.co/hwmbs2qrrm pic.twitter.com/3JDwSlhO4Q
