The Supreme Court announced that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone surgery to remove two cancerous growths from her lungs today.
This is the second major health scare this year for the 85-year-old liberal icon. This is also her third cancer scare. She was treated for both colorectal and pancreatic cancer in the last two decades.
Democrats panicked after Ginsburg’s fall last month when the realization hit that she might not make it through to the other side of Trump’s presidency. The media has made efforts to downplay the significance of this latest cancer diagnosis, but her fragility cannot be ignored any longer.
Justice Ginsburg has pledged to remain on the bench as long as she is physically able to do so. Recent health crises highlight her age though, and it may not be long before she forced to step down.
