Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday that Queen Elizabeth II of England has tested positive for the coronavirus and has cold-like symptoms.
The 95-year-old monarch is receiving medical attention and performing light duties while she is ill.
“She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines,” the palace said in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth was fully vaccinated and had also received a booster. Her son Prince Charles and wife Camilla also recently tested positive for the virus.
High numbers of people around the world have been testing positive for the omicron variant of COVID-19 despite being vaccinated and boosted, but the vast majority of the infections are not severe.
