Once again, Romey has attacked the Trump administration and joined the chorus of Democrats blaming the president for COVID-19 deaths in the United States. He has somehow hit a new low.
“Short term, I think it’s fair to say we really have not distinguished ourselves in a positive way by how we responded to the crisis when it was upon us,” said Romney during an interview.
“And the proof of the pudding of that is simply that we have 5 percent of the world’s population but 25 percent of the world’s deaths due to COVID-19,” he continued. “And there’s no way to spin that in a positive light.”
It is difficult to tell what exactly Romney is pushing for here. Does he support a China-style lockdown? Is he in favor of forcing businesses to remain closed, thereby destroying jobs and livelihoods?
The verdict is still out on that, but he seems content with pinning virus-related deaths on Trump — even though Trump has done everything within his constitutional power to slow the spread and empower states to lead.
