A retirement announcement just completely stunned the nation. Millions of Americans can’t believe the news about this beloved quarterback — and now everyone wants to know what will happen next.
Shannon Sharpe, a broadcaster for Fox Sports 1, has called on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to “retire now” after Brees said that he still opposes protesting during the National Anthem.
“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” said Brees to Yahoo! News. He then talked about the patriotism he feels during the anthem.
“I envision my two grandfathers, who fought for this country during World War II, one in the Army and one in the Marine Corps,” said Brees, who also remarked it often “brings me to tears.”
Brees said much more than that, too. He discussed how — even though the United States isn’t perfect, showing respect for the flag and anthem shows “unity” and “that we are all part of the solution.”
According to Sharpe, this is grounds for Brees to throw in the towel right now and quit the NFL. “I’ll never respect him,” said Sharpe. “He probably should just go ahead and retire now.”
